GOKYO LAKE TREK is a less crowded, beautiful and an easier alternative comparing to Everest Base Camp. It includes very inspiring and incredible views of the northwest face of Mt. Everest along with its many other beautiful mountain peaks. The highlights of this trek are highlanders Sherpa’s lifestyle, their unique cultural hospitality, the beauty and purity of Gokyo Lake with some other sacred lakes and beautiful places like Namche Bazar, Dole, Machhermo etc.
A 35min of short flight to Lukla from Kathmandu takes you to the classical trail that heads towards the Everest Base Camp. After reaching in Namche Bazar through Phakding, you better have a rest on your 3rd day to acclimatize and explore the beautiful village of Sherpa with their lifestyle & culture enjoying the mesmerizing view of the Mt. Everest. The next day, you head to the North West side to Dudh Koshi Valley and to the snout of the Ngozumpa glacier. Crossing the valley alongside the glacial moraine and passing two lakes and Yak grazing fields on the slopes, you slowly get into the Gokyo Lake. A stiff climbing up to Gokyo Ri (5357m) welcomes you with the fantastic and panoramic views of the Cho Oyo, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and other surrounding peaks which are breathtaking and surprising. Then next day, you slowly hike down back to Lukla through Machhermo and Namche Bazar from where you fly again back to Kathmandu.
Just to let you know that the weather may not go as we plan in such Himalayan region so please be aware of that and have some spare days as the flight from Kathmandu to/from Lukla can’t be guaranteed every time. Usually it’s all right during the season from March to May and September to November but still better to be flexible mentally and for your further safety we recommend you to add few days here before your flight back to home or somewhere else.
